From the 2017 competition application materials, the Preliminary Panel identifies and awards one New Zealander with a prize package created to provide an intensive development opportunity. This winner will accompany the 16 quarter-finalists to Queenstown and Auckland and observe the competition’s proceedings. He or she will participate in the professional development opportunities and will be acknowledged in the prize-giving and related publicity materials.


All qualifying quarter-finalists receive travel to Queenstown and Auckland New Zealand.

Loan of Violin

Contemporary Italian violin maker, Riccardo Bergonzi, has donated a specially crafted violin to the Competition. Following the final round, it will be made available to deserving competition participants at the discretion of the Competition. Sir Michael Hill will loan his personal violin, Giovanni Battista Guadagnini, 1755, named “The Southern Star” to the 1st prize winner to perform on the 2018 Winner’s Tour (pending feasibility).
